Travel time from Vienna: 1h 6 min drive
How to get there if you don’t have a car? Trains go to Mürzzuschlag where a bus transfer will take you the rest of the way, various bus tour operators offer all-inclusive packages directly to the slopes.

Close by car, also accessible by train (ÖBB offers also ski pass and train ticket combos.) or bus, and a range of slopes that suit the best and the worst on skis or boards, Stuhleck tends to be the first choice for a skiing day trip for the people of Vienna.

This ski resort doesn’t only have a funny name to curse your foreigner friends with. Also accessible by train and bus if you’re minus a car, this spot makes for a wham-bam-thankyou-maam day of fun in the white stuff. There’s slopes for beginners and for world class runners, and there’s also a funpark set up for tricksters on snowboards and skis.
Unterberg
Time from Vienna: 1 h 39 min drive
How to get there if you don’t have a car? Catch a train to Wiener Neustadt and from there jump on a train to Pernitz- Muggendorf. From there you can catch a taxi a short distance, or on weekends and public holidays, a shuttle bus is running between the station and the slopes. Find more details, here.

Located in the so-called Viennese alps, Unterberg may be harder to get to, but it sure is a fun option for those that are dedicated. For skiing and snowboarding, there are 16 km of slopes available, which prove to be kickass if the conditions play along. There’s also plenty of jumps for snowboarders that like to leave the ground.
Hauereck

How to get there if you don’t have a car? Unfortunately, there are no trains or buses that regularly service a route between Vienna and Hauereck.

This one’s perfect for when your skiing adventure is a family affair. It’s not big, but it does have all the family-friendly facilities that you need when you’ve got little Harold in tow – a practice lift, a 4 person ski lift, and a 4 km toboggan-run!
Mönichkirchen Mariensee

This mountain in lower Austria has space, gentle beginners’ slopes, a black run for the pros, ultra-modern facilities and all you’ll need for a fun day in the snow. It’s also especially family-friendly.
Hohe Wand

Difficulty: slopes for beginners
Good for: kids, and beginners learning how to ski

Opening times: 9am–9pm
If you’re a pro skier, stop reading now as the Home Wand slopes are more for beginners, and for children learning to ski. So don’t expect a lot of snow here, and don’t expect it to be quality stuff. However, the itty bitty slope (which does come equipped with a lift) are perfect for those learning, or for kids just wanting to have a bit of fun.
