#Instamaam: An instagrammer photographing her fascination for the vintage of Vienna

Here are 10 charming shots of Vienna looking vintage, from the inside out.

1. How did you end up in Vienna?

It was 4 years ago when I just got back from a 6-month stay in San Francisco and I got depressed thinking I would never find a place that fulfilled me quite as much as California did. I started thinking about where to go next and where to study. One night I watched the film Before Sunrise, and a couple of nights later I googled “University of Vienna,” and drum rooollll! I decided to move to Vienna. Was it subconsciously because of the movie? Well. I’ll let you decide that.

2. Tell us about what you photograph.

I like capturing everything that inspires me. This may sound a little cliché but it is what it is. When I see a bathroom, like the pink one on my IG-feed, I just need to take a picture of it. One of my favourite things to photograph is probably the elderly people of Vienna. Jesus, they’re just so photogenic, it’s crazy.

3. Describe your style in a few words

4. Name three of your favourite subjects, or locations to shoot?

5. We did notice your love for interiors and coffeehouses. What inspires you about them?

Time seems to stand still there. People sip on their Melange while reading their newspaper or book, chatting, dreaming or just sitting there, observing and thinking. It’s not really about the good coffee or the *sweetmotherofgod*delicious pastries. It’s about that feeling. The interiors of many coffeehouses – which thank god haven’t been changed for decades – just speak to me in a way I can’t really put into words. They’re telling stories. It’s like inhaling culture. I can’t get that anywhere else.

6. When is your favourite time to go to a coffeehouse and do you ever chat up strangers when you go?

I especially love going there when it’s a little colder outside, like during fall, or winter. Strangers and older people, sometimes start talking to me. They love sharing life stories, like how they fled war when they were kids and ended up in Vienna with their families. They sometimes try to persuade me to start doing things like sailing. I love it (not the sailing, the conversations).

7. What’s your favourite place in Vienna?

It changes frequently, to be honest. The most current one is probably Café Prückel. I can sit there for hours and admire every single detail of their interior. Last week it was “Café Jelinek”, before it was “Kleines Café“ (so photogenic). God, there are just too many cafés I’m in love with. I mean, Viennese ‘Gemütlichkeit’, right?
Oh, and I love the view from the Onyx Bar. Kind of my all-time favourite.

8. What does Vienna mean to you and how has it influenced your work?

Vienna is like a place my whole being always wished existed, but never knew it did. Until I moved here. Vienna makes me wanna’ go outside and discover more and more, it nourishes my soul with creativity, so it definitely shaped me.

9. Did Instagram change how you see the world?

Absolutely. Wherever I go, I find the most epic spots thanks to Instagram. It gives me a wider sense of what is out there and what is yet to discover. It kind of urges me to explore more and I get to meet a bunch of creative people. I also get to see things and places through other people’s eyes, which is always fascinating.

10. Who’s your favourite Instagram artist you’re currently following?

I’ll start with the first ones I started following when I came to Vienna: @irinahp,@_pommegranate, @ladyvenom. They were the first ones giving me a beautiful impression of the city.
I will name more, cause I feel like I should: @theviennesegirl, @patrickwardhofer, @maycefaris, @kathmo, @michelle_terese
