Everything you need to do this week & weekend in Vienna

Come along and be part of the change!

Klimaschutz & Action

Caritas Vienna and youngCaritas are organising a day of eco-action this Monday. The aim is to show people what they can achieve by working together. The main events include a screening of the film ‘OUR PLANET: OUR BUSINESS’, a panel with sustainability experts, and teaming up to tidy the Donaukanal.

Check out this beloved Viennese Jazz/ Wiener Lied band

5/8erl in Ehr’n live @ Stadtsaal

The Jazz/Wiener Lied band, 5/8erl in Ehr’n, is bringing some Viennese flavour to the stage, and you can catch them playing at Stadtsaal. As always, their music blends Power Ballads with chilled-out Reggae Grooves, so you probably won’t be able to keep your fingers from clicking to the rhythm. Right now the tickets are sold out, but you can still get on the waiting list here.

Attend this reading festival with your favourite little humans!

Lesofantenfest 2024

This year’s Lesofantenfest is starting on Tuesday, so you and your kids will have the chance to attend a pile of interesting workshops and pick up a load of interesting books. As the main organisers, Büchereien Wien will be introducing a variety of interactive stations for their visitors and reading sessions for even the youngest of listeners. So bring along your children, nephews, nieces, cousins or even your next-door neighbour’s annoying kid – the entrance is free and the festival’s programme is perfect for anyone aged between 0-14!

Come check out the indigenous art of Brazil

(𝑼𝒏)𝑲𝒏𝒐𝒘𝒏 𝑨𝒓𝒕𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑨𝒎𝒂𝒛𝒐𝒏 @ Weltmuseum Wien

Check out this new exhibit at the Weltmuseum Vienna, in collaboration with the Museu de Arte Indígena, showcasing the dynamic art scene of Brazil’s indigenous artists. And if you’re really interested, drop by for the opening this Tuesday at 6:30 pm, where you’ll get a chance to see the screening of Expedição KUARUP—a film that takes you inside the sacred Kuarup ceremony, a meaningful ritual used by Amazon tribes to honor the dead and celebrate their cultural bonds.

Treat your ears to this concert featuring Grammy-nominated Turkish Psychedelic Folk music

Altin Gün @ Gasometer

Altın Gün (‘Golden Day’) are an Anatolian Rock and Turkish Psychedelic Folk band from Amsterdam whose style has been described as ‘psychedelic’ with a ‘dirty blend of Funk rhythms, wah-wah guitars and analogue organs’. They sound as if they’re playing Turkish folk songs that have been updated with a mix of Funk, synths and fun. Oh, and they were already nominated for a little thing called Grammy in the ‘Best World Music Album’ section.

Check out the folk sweethearts Seafret

FM4 Indiekiste mit SEAFRET

This week’s Indiekiste brings you Seafret, the UK duo that met by chance at an open mic night and has been making music together ever since. They are playing live at ARENA WIEN this Wednesday. Come check out their folkish guitars!

Fill your earholes with some fantastic jazz beats and tunes

SHAKE STEW @ Gartenbaukino

The Austrian Jazz band Shake Stew, is performing in Gartenbaukino this Sunday. The venue’s surround sound system will be set up specially for the concert to make their sound even more powerful.

Catch this talented musician live

Mira Lu Kovacs @ Wiener Konzerthaus

The talented Austrian singer, songwriter, and composer Mira Lu Kovacs, will be gracing the stage at the Wiener Konzerthaus this Wednesday. She has already proven the many impressive facets of her talents in recent years with hit after hit as her alter ego Schmieds Puls or with the band 5K HD.

A two day birthday party with 8 cool bands

NOISE APPEAL FEST: DRIVE MOYA, REFLECTOR, LEHNEN, LE_MOL

Noise Appeal Records is turning 21 and throwing a big birthday party at Chelsea. It’s happening over two nights with eight cool bands providing a wide range of sounds and styles.

Drink, dance, network and flirt at this after work party

Büroschluss. The real After Work Party.

The Büroschluss party is back again this month! Grab your colleagues and head to the O club for some after-work drinks. You can even reserve a table to have dinner there, or if you’re just feeling a bit peckish after a long day at the office, you can enjoy their special ‘Büroschluss snacks’.

There’s potential for networking, dancing, eating, and flirting there. On four different areas, you can enjoy all kinds of music, from current hits to catchy 80s tunes.

A second-hand pop up store for women’s clothing

Second Hand Rose – Frühling 2024

A bunch of women are clearing out their wardrobes and are inviting you to buy their stuff! Be at the Second Hand Rose Pop-up-second-hand-store in Vienna and buy up some new outfits for spring! They’ll even be serving a glass of Prosecco (which is almost champagne, right?) to make you feel super fancy while doing your bargaining.

Keep quiet? Not in this life!

Tutty Tran ‘HAI DAI MAU’

Tutty Tran, the Berlin comedian with Vietnamese roots, is performing his second solo show ‘HAI DAI MAU’ at Globe this Friday. The name of the show, ‘HAI DAI MAU,’ comes from the comedian’s father often telling him to ‘shut your mouth’ in a mix of Vietnamese and German. That should give you an idea of what the show will be like.

A plant lover's dream

Bio-Pflanzenmarkt

If you are planning to set up a vegetable garden or cultivate some herbs on your balcony, this event is for you. It’s also the perfect place to go if you wanna pick up some great ingredients for a healthy meal, or just walk around with a tote bag pretending you’re the main character in an indie movie.

Turbo, Techno and trouts

TURBO X REDIVIDER @ Grelle Forelle

This party is going to be turbo-lent (get it?). Also, it’s taking place at the only club named after a bright trout. By the way, we still don’t know what aquatic animals and Techno parties have in common. But if you visit enough of them you may be enlightened one day.

Let’s make it a night to remember!

Queer Yugo Pop Party

Yes! A hot queer party is just what we need on this cold(ish) April Saturday! So, come if you’re in the mood for some nostalgic Yugo pop beats and strong welcome drinks.

Discover the secrets of the herbs in Schönbrunn!

Führung: Schönbrunns wilde Kräuter

If you’re looking for an outdoorsy sort of activity, why not go and discover the herbal heritage of Schönbrunn Palace Park? You’ll need comfy shoes because it’s a bit of a trek, but it’s totally worth it to see how the famous park used to be a wild forest back in the day.

JUNK & TRINKETS

Abentflohmarkt im Kulturcafé Henriette

Come hunt for some old treasures or clear out the upper shelves of your closet. The theme of this flea market is trinkets, clutter, and souvenirs. Anything that fits into the category of junk will be for sale here.

Shop for some funky second hand treasures at Gürtelbräu

Gürtel x Flohmarkt #12

It’s time to rummage through a flea market while stuffing your face with vegan snacks! That’s right! This Sunday, at Gürtelbräu you can spice up your wardrobe with some funky second hand treasures. We were at the last one and bought a bunch of cool stuff.

A music festival that's as Viennese as it gets

Wean hean – Wienerliedfestival 2024

Listen up lovers of Viennese music – this is something for you! For over a month, you’ll have the chance to catch various live concerts as part of the Wean Hean festival.

It’s gonna take place in venues all over town; from a theater to a chapel and even some Heurige (wine taverns). For more info on when, where, who’s playing, and how much you’re paying, head over to the festival’s website.

Oh, and they also put together some playlists, which are worth checking out, especially if you’re not too familiar with this kind of music and want to find out if this might be actually something for you.

It's flea market o'clock

METAMarkt Flohmarkt

A flea market is twice the fun when it takes place in the right setting. And what would complement all those vintage items more than the industrial charm of an old factory building, right?

The METAStadt is back with its weekly flea market this weekend.
