Schönbbergers Caffe Bar

Under the leafy green trees of Wiedner Hauptstrasse in Vienna’s 4rth district is Schönbbergers Caffe Bar. You may walk right by it as their branding looks discreet below the huge NABER sign gracing the top of its facade. That’s because the character of the local coffee scene, Patrick Schönbberger (who sells all things coffee including beans, coffee machines etc.) moved his home base operation into what used to be a standing cafe from the iconic local coffee brand NABER. The Schönbbergers have changed little since taking it over, and we’re so grateful that they didn’t. The place – and it’s look – is a classic that deserves to live in for many years to come. The standing cafe has been kept in pristine vintage condition, with bigass bean tins lined up behind the counter, and the bar counter itself being a beautiful feature. The subtle inclusions of a few sofa armchairs in the window and a long high communal table make it also a cafe where you can sit down with your coffee. Whether you’re getting your coffee to go, or taking a seat at the bar to savour it, the baristas certainly know what they’re doing. They’re making some VERY good coffee with all the tricks of the third wave coffee scene.
