Every year in November, hundreds of people cosplay and roam the halls of the beloved convention, Vienna Comic Con.
If you have no idea what a cosplayer is, it’s a performance art of ‘costume play’ (hence the name) in which creative people invest a lot of money and time in dressing up in costumes and fashion accessories to represent a specific character. It’s truly incredible how much time and money is invested into cosplay and Vienna has quite the scene, believe it, or not! So, we asked a bunch of cosplayers for a photo and their story behind the outfits.
Check out these 11 awesome Cosplayers and what they had to say about their costumes:
Geralt of Rivia from The Witcher
It took Geralt of Rivia around 45 minutes to get into cosplay on the day. It’s an all self-assembled cosplay that he’s also wearing when he’s doing flight shows, stunts and fire shows at Medieval festivals with his @diedreschflegel crew.
Borg from Star Trek
It took around 300 hours to create this Borg cosplay (that consists of a total of 85 metres of plastic tubes), but it took @bajuwaren_cosplay only 20 to 30 minutes to get into cosplay that day.
Prompto Agentum & Noctis Lucis Caelum from Final Fantasy XV
If you wanna’ look like these two cosplayers, @hearty.chan & @kikikobanjo, you’ll need to spend 2 hours of your day applying make-up to look like these characters from Final Fantasy XV. Especially if you want to pay as much attention to detail as they did, like the freckles on Prompto’s face.
Vault Dwellers from Fallout
This cosplay @nezumi87 & partner are portraying vault dwellers from post-apocalyptic role-playing video games, Fallout. It was a rather low-budget DIY cosplay according to the pair, but get this – they 3D printed several of their accessories, like their guns.
Ahsoka Tano from Star Wars: The Clone Wars
This Ahsoka Tano cosplay wasn’t that expensive, costing a bit over 100 Euros. Getting into character took @taracoart around 1 hour. And no, she wouldn’t let us play with her Lightsaber.
Eva Ushiromiya from Umineko: When They Cry
@yukinounmei, a long-term cosplayer herself, worked on her cosplay for about one whole year (on and off)! Talk about dedicated! In case you’re wondering, she’s Eva Ushiromiya from the Japanese visual novel, Umineko: When they Cry. Impressive, right?
Nott & Yasha Nydoorin from Critical Role
Another DIY project we stumbled upon at this year’s Comic Con in Vienna were these cosplays by @wandalabee & @the_cosplaying_dodo. These outfits, inspired by characters from the web series, Critical Role, were one and a half weeks in the making, and took 4 hours of getting ready in the morning.
Nekopara from pointlessmu’s art
@NecroTea spent 250€ on her Nekopara character, which she said she chose because it brings out her cuteness. We’d agree.
Perry from Perry the Platypus
@basterony_the_toretellony‘s Perry was a 4-hour DIY project. Getting ready, on the other hand, took only eight minutes. If you don’t know who Perry the Platypus is (shame on you 😉 it’s a character from the American animated series, Phineas and Ferb. You gotta’ like that sh** up!
