13 moody sunset pictures of Vienna’s old mysterious military complex known as the Arsenal

Unless you live near, or in it, we’re sure you don’t often find yourself walking around the Arsenal complex in Vienna’s third district: a.) because it’s a bit out of the way, and b.) because it might seem like simply a weird thing to do – to go for a walk in a former military complex.

However, this is one fascinating building (that acts as a damn fine photography subject, as well, as you’re about to see below). This warm red brick building complex is Vienna’s best Romantic historicism masterpiece, and if that doesn’t turn you on, its massive size (72 buildings make up the complex) and many alleyways make it a great location for a game of hide-and-seek. It’s kinda one of those buildings that ya’ know would be a more central part of the city where people would meet if it was well-connected with public transport.

Anyhow, at sunset in spring, the light hits in such a way that makes it the perfect model for a photo story, and we’ve made one.
