9 events at the Kultursommer Festival in Vienna that you absolutely shouldn’t miss

It must be fun!

Tom Neuwirth & Martin Zerza – Kultursommer

Come see Tom Neuwirth (yes, the artist who gave us Conchita Wurst!) and his best friend Martin Zerza perform sharp-tongued original songs and some wicked covers. They will be joined by a live band with three virtuoso musicians. It’s going to be a sincere and self-ironic show, true to the artist’s personal motto: “A Gaudi muss sein!” (It must be fun!).

'Not so Open' Mic

PCCC* – the politically correct comedy club – Kultursommer

Our favourite Queer Comedy Collective, the Politically Correct Comedy Club, is all about making everyone feel part of the fun, without the punchlines ever punching anyone down.

As part of the Kultursommer festival, they’re presenting the ‘Not so Open’ Mic event, hosted by the incomparable Denice Bourbon. It’s sorta like cabaret meets queer comedy meets improv meets secret society… you know what? You’ll just have to be there to get it. So be there!

This event will be held in German, English, and even Sign Language, so everyone can understand.

PS The clubhouse of ASK Erlaa Torpedo 03 will be firing up the grill right next to the stage where this performance (and many other Kultursommer performances) will be happening. Check out the dates for the barbecue evenings here!

A band, but also a family

Deine Familie – Kultursommer

If your friends keep asking, ‘So, are you into Austrian music yet?’ come listen to this band! They’re going to become your new favourite Austrian performers. Deine Familie is a Synth Rock band from Vienna, and their music is going to take you on a journey. It’s playful, nostalgic, quirky, and the beats get stuck in your head (in a good way!).

Have you heard of Bedroom Pop?

Lukas Oscar + Band – Kultursommer

Lukas Oscar is a real prodigy! He started playing the piano at 6 and tried his hand at music production at 14. Today, he’s all grown up and known for his unique blend of haunting falsettos and distorted bass. So, if you’re looking for an emotional, raw, and new sound to add to your summer playlists, come and give him a listen.

A little bit of Jazz

Anna Lauvergnac Quartet Vienna – Kultursommer

What goes best with a Sunday summer evening? A little bit of Jazz. Anna Lauvergnac, known for her captivating vocals, leads a quartet that will be lighting up Mortarapark with some amazing skatts and tunes. With Oliver Kent on piano, Hans Strasser on bass, and Dusan Novakov on drums, this group brings a fresh and dynamic vibe to Jazz. Each song is its own story, with lots of personality and intense interplay.

Non-binary summer love

Mayr – Kultursommer

Our non-binary summer love is Bit Michlmayr, who has been performing solo as ‘Mayr’. If you don’t know what to expect at this performance, just imagine a mix of Pop, Punk, and Experimental sounds, with lyrics in German, English, French, and Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian. The themes cover love stories with unhappy endings, wage labor, bubbles, hetero bars, and seasonal mood swings. This should give you an idea or at least keep you intrigued.

Not that kind of circus!

Marta and Dori | INALTO MARE – Kultursommer

When you think about the circus, do you picture weird, creepy clowns? If so, you’re wrong. If you’re thinking of a contemporary art form, you’re spot on!

This performance consists of two acts. The first is a unique show where two women are connected by their hair, exploring themes of individuality and connection. The second is a mix of juggling, hand balancing, and contortion. Both performances focus on physical and emotional interaction, offering thought-provoking and entertaining experiences for all ages. Not a creepy clown in sight! Come and see for yourself.

Glam and glitter

Styling Corner – Kultursommer

Ever feel jealous of the artists on stage, all glammed up, while you’re just sitting in the audience? Well, Kultursommer has got you covered. Sit back and enjoy the show while a team of talented artists brings the glamour to you!

Let the make-up artists work their magic, have Nailigion paint your nails, or get creative yourself with a colourful palette of plant-based nail polishes. It’s all about celebrating each other, expressing yourself, or just chatting with the awesome people you’ll meet at this event.

No registration needed! Come spontaneously, try something new, live it up!

Get insights into stand-up comedy

Comedy Workshop: After Work – Kultursommer

Have your friends ever told you ‘you should go into comedy!’ after you’ve spent the last two hours at the bar venting about your nightmare boss? Well, all you wannabe comedians can join Romeo Kaltenbrunner’s cabaret and stand-up workshop.

This is going to be about learning the basics: How to find topics, make the jokes actually funny, and craft your own set. The workshop’s in German, but Romeo also speaks English.
