Attend a fascinating discussion on whether decision-makers act purely in their own interests
Economics and human motivation: Charles Darwin meets Adam Smith
When: WED, December 18, 6pm–9pm
Where: WU – Vienna University of Economics & Business
Entry: TBD
No, this isn’t one of those hologram tours where a famous person takes to the stage after they have shuffled off this mortal coil, rather a discussion that includes Darwin’s famous theory. A case will be made that evolution leads to something called ‘homo moralis preferences’, a combination of self-interest in line with Adam Smith’s Wealth of Nations and an ethical morality in line with Immanuel Kant’s categorical imperative. It’s possible, if you’re like us reading that last sentence, that you might feel your brain is contributing to evolution going backwards. If you haven’t switched off inside yet, this event is probably for you!
Recommended if you like: über-intelligent discussions, panels of experts, proving Darwin’s theory of evolution by pointing at your brain, economics, wearing one of those hats with the little helicopter blades on the top, saying “Listen..” before you start a sentence
