Der gute Mensch von Sezuan (or ‘The Good Person of Szechwan’) by Bertolt Brecht follows a young prostitute, Shen Teh, as she attempts to lead a “good” life in Szechwan. And how does she do this? By inventing a male alter ego to protect herself: a cousin named Shui Ta. It also features three gods who happen to be on the lookout for someone who is “good”, so what could happen?… The production features English and Arabic subtitles.
Recommended if you like: boys who like boys who like girls who like girls…and so on, Bertolt Brecht, sounding intellectual by calling things ‘Brechtian’, plays about prostitutes who wanna be good, the theeeeaatre daaahling
