When you hear the word Renaissance, you’ll most likely think of Italy and its master painters of that era first. But actually there were a couple of famous painters active in Austria as well, most notably Albrecht Dürer. Now the Belvedere sheds some light on this chapter of Austrian art history that has so far received little attention.
In addition to the artworks of Dürer and his contemporaries (such as Albrecht Altdorfer, Jörg Breu and Lucas Cranach the Elder) you’ll also see paintings, drawings, sculptures, prints and medals by lesser-known artists.
