An exhibition of Austria’s beautiful early photo books

Photo.Book.Art

When: June 28–Sept 22
Where: Albertina
Entry: 16€ (concessions 7/11€), buy a ticket

It’s a slippery slope: you buy a 20€ plastic camera from a flea market, and before you know it you’re spending most of your time fumbling around in the dark with a red light above you (developing film that is. Not what you’re thinking of, pervert). Then the final step on your journey is starting a collection of photography books (“They’re like an exhibition you can take home!”), which is when you really need the big bucks. Fortunately, you can stare at them here in this exhibition of gorgeous Austrian photo books from as early as 1840.

Recommended if you like: exhibitions you can take home but in an exhibition, exploring photography, beautiful old objects that make you mutter “my precious”, looking at books that smell like your grandma, getting inspired by art
