Spotlight is shined on Klimt, Moster, Schiele and more
Spend some time with Vienna’s greatest hits in art
When: ongoing
Where: various locations
Celebrating a century at the heart of the modernist movement, Vienna is putting on quite a show this year. It’s the anniversary year of Viennese Modernism, and many galleries are doing impressive things with exhibitions spotlighting the main protagonists of the movement. There’s the Leopold Museum who has gathered together works of all the main protagonists in the movement, including Klimt and Moser. And they’ve put them up on the wall alongside the world-renowned Expressionists, Gerstl and Kokoschka. To make the exhibition a well-rounded experience, they have also collected outstanding examples of design, from furniture to posters from the era of the Wiener Werkstätte. Or you can head for the “Klimt Bridge” at the Kunst Historisches Museum, or the pioneering Virtual Exhibition in the MAK, Klimt’s Magic Garden. This is a special time to marvel at the incredibly creative masterpieces done by these super creative individuals during what was a grand time for art.
Recommended if you like: Expressionists, Jugendstil, Wiener Werkstätte, art history books, practicing your pensive face in front of the mirror, getting inspired by art, Secessionists, any of the above listed artists
