Estancia Santa Cruz – Best ribs

The spare ribs at Estancia Santa Cruz make a wild, rabid dog out of us. Before we even get there we’re frothing at the mouth, imagining tearing the beautifully marinated meat from the bone, then throwing the bone to the floor where it lands next to the knife we’ve already discarded. As a rabid dog has no need for cutlery.
There’s two main reasons you should visit this tex-mex restaurant (it kind of does look like a Texan ranch house – but a whole lot greener) located on the Prater’s boulevard, the Hauptallee – one is the pork ribs and the other is for its garden’s atmosphere.

It’s those ribs that keep us coming back. But not the BBQ ribs themselves, but the perfectly sour, salty and spiced chimichurri marinade that’s generously smeared on top of them. Sitting there bobbing our head to the Gypsy Kings on the speakers, grease all around our grinning face, we’re amazed at how one ingredient – the marinade – can make one dish addictive.
The spare ribs serving comes with two racks and a pile of potato-flying saucer thingies which act as the perfect pawns in a quest to get as much of the two tasty sauces – aioli and paprika – to your tastebuds as possible.
