9 life lessons for 2018 from a Viennese Opa who has lived a century

No self-help book can compare to speaking to a person that has almost lived 100-years on this crazy planet.

We asked 96-year-old Viennese Opa, Marcel Zloczower and his wife, Faala, a few deep and meaningful questions to which they gave some simple life lessons. Watch this video if you’re hungry for inspiration and wisdom to take in to the new year of 2018.

Watch the interview, here:

1. What is love?

Marcel Zloczower (MZ): This is coming from your own soul and body. It’s a feeling. You can’t explain it. This is a kind of glue which is not available in the shop. You can’t buy that.

2. What’s the secret to love?

MZ: Listen to your heart and not to reason.

3. What’s one thing you wish you had known 50 years ago?

MZ: Listen to the experienced people first before taking any decisions in your life. Decisions are not just for one day or 24 hours, but for years.

4. People should try to be…

Faala Zloczower (FZ): To be honest.
MZ: To be open-minded, first of all; to every advice or information you can receive that will help you with your future, or are for you benefit.

5. What’s the secret to enjoying life?

MZ: To make it like the Italians, I would say – Dolce Far Niente. To do sweet nothing! Dolce Far Niente.

6. What advice would you give to somebody struggling at the moment?

MZ: Try again…try again, until you succeed. But you have to have the power, your own power must convince you that you can handle that. Don’t wait for the sunshine to come tomorrow, or maybe the rain. So you can have your excuse – I can’t go out today because it’s raining, I can’t go look for my future because it’s too hot outside. That doesn’t exist. Everyday you have to be like a soldier.

7. What does the world need more of?

A better understanding of each other. Although their cultures are different, but they should understand each other.

8. What’s the most important thing to have in life?

In my opinion – luck.

9. What should people do when life gets boring?

Go to Viennawurstelstand.com and ask them for advice. They have a lot of clever people who can help you.
