Long before commercial flights and highways, railway lines served as the veins of civilisation. Meaning, no matter what city you’re in, you can always rely on this one rule – follow the tracks and you will find forgotten places left over from another era.
In Vienna, this rule also applies, it seems. An anonymous URBEX (translation for those not in the know: urban exploration) photographer sent these photos our way. We thought you might enjoy the eerie apocalyptic feel of them given the current vibe hanging around town.
Once home to heavy industry, today this factory lays empty – a playground for graffiti artists and URBEX photographers seeking out the parts of our cities that have been left behind.
With a sea of industrial compounds looming in the distance, and the wind whistling through the smashed windows, it’s easy to feel like you’re standing on the edge of the apocalypse.
If you look closely you can still find fragments of the building’s past, hidden amongst the smashed glass windows, the cigarette packs and stolen goods.
