Forget French or Italian – according to various studies, Viennese is the most beautiful language in the world (disclaimer: these studies may have been carried out in a Viennese Beisl). It simply has such a vast variety of words and expressions. And some of those can be hard to decipher and pronounce, even if you speak fluent German. And that’s the beauty of the language (but is it, though?!).

Anyhow, it’s time you put your Viennese to the test.

Heast = literally: listen up!
Oasch = ass
Hackeln = to work
Zach = tough, exhausting
Gschissener = shitty person
Beidl = male reproductive organ
Hawara = mate
Tschick = cigarette
Fladern = to steal
Gspusi = casual romantic affair
Duttln = breasts
Wappler = idiot
Budern = to have sex
Gusch = shut up
Bumzua = very drunk
Goschen = mouth; can also be used as ‘shut up’
Wamperter = corpulent person
Brunzen = to urinate
Hüsn = can of beer
