Ammutson is a great place to grab some sun and then sip a craft beer you most probably haven’t tried before. This place changes its beers on tap as often as our intern changes his sexual partners. That’s right – that often. Ammutson prides itself on being independent and only stocks beers from super small breweries. Plus, it’s set on an idyllic cobblestone street in the 6th district.

Opening times:
MON–FRI: 9am–5pm
SAT: 9am–3pm

The Karma Food eateries have been popping up all over the city in recent years, and we’re damn glad about it. The healthy food eateries are veerrrryy pleasant places to grab lunch, or a coffee (their baristas know what they’re doing and are using specialty coffee beans). The 2nd district version of Karma Food is set in a nice little garden across from the Wien Messe area. If you’re a WU student, or are working in the area, this is a solid sunny option for lunch.

Best time of day for sunshine: the afternoon sees rays of sunshine hit this garden.

Biosk

Where: Museumsquartier, 1070

Opening times:
MON–SUN: 11am–12am

Biosk gets a whole courtyard in the MQ to itself, and this courtyard is usually full of kids running around, and the sound of fun happening. That might have something to do with the children’s theater Dschungel being based in the same square. This means Biosk is popular with the young family crowd in spring and summer. But even if you don’t have kids, don’t hesitate to turn up here for a morning coffee, when the sun is in prime position for Biosk.

Best time of day for sunshine: turn up for a morning coffee, or an early afternoon drink to get the best rays of sun at Biosk

MQ Daily

The alfresco garden at MQ Daily is probably the best asset of this cafe. It serves up a decent coffee and light bites (we’d recommend the Affogato).

Kleines Cafe

Kleines cafe is a favourite amongst those who hold a special place in their hearts for Bohemian cafes. It also is a go-to spot for many who are floating around the 1st district and in the mood for a sunny Schanigarten. The cobblestone square its based on is as idyllic as it gets in Vienna.

The palm and fern filled cafe set in an old greenhouse, Palmenhaus, is a legend amongst the Vienna locals – same goes for its garden, which is set in front, with a view overlooking the Burggarten. It doesn’t get much better than this.

Ramasuri

SUN: 9am–10pm

Ok, we’re going this far as to say it – Ramasuri has one of the most beautiful Schanigarten in the city. That’s it! It’s out there! But we’re not hyperbolising here. The sun hits it in the morning delightfully, and as it wraps around the cafe, there is not a time throughout the day when you won’t catch a seat in the sun at Ramasuri. PS – their breakfast is worth getting out of bed for.

Best time of day for sunshine: all day long, however the absolute best time is during the morning
