Busy, but beautiful – ROBB releases first EP

Firstling is called “Clay”, new single will be presented as well. For the love of Buddha, these guys are hard to tie down! Asking them questions is like taking care of four toddlers, 20 puppies and a coked-up dame of the night: impossible to keep track of.

But alas, they have a lot of things on their minds these days. Tomorrow, August 28, ROBB will be releasing their first ever EP, called “Clay”. And with it, an all-new single with an astonishingly beautiful video accompanying it. (Yeah, we already had a look at the full thing, and it’s great.) But that’s only tomorrow! So in order for you to kill some time, here’s a quick and dirty interview, where front man Rob told us about art, hoverboards and – of course – their new EP.

Just in case that there are still people who haven’t heard of ROBB yet, how would you describe your music in one sentence?
A little bit like painting class, back in 4th grade – free from convention, with brave brush strokes, pretty colourful, kinda like this.

We discovered you last summer when you released FOURBYFOUR, shed a tear over the beauty of BEYOND, loved the laid-back VADUZ, and already had the pleasure to listen to your next single S***** (dear readers, the name’s still a secret). With an output so magnificent, we hope you allow the question: why did it take you so long to finish your first EP?
We see the “Clay” EP as a first chapter of something about to unfold. Obviously, we wanted to make sure that chapter had enough variation and depth to cover all sorts of paths. Setting a final brush stroke was quite a difficult task –especially if you have the ambition to continue beyond the canvas, if you know what I mean? Absolutely.

So with the EP finally finished, what can people expect from it?
Rob: Five tracks that cover an interesting year of development and exchange – and of course beautiful artwork by our lovely friends Fuxherz.

If I could put together a line-up for the perfect festival, I'd go with Sting, Kanye, Prince, Les McCann trio, the Beatles and Michael Jackson. Just to let you know.

Talking about that last year, what did you do?
Well, we spent most of our time working on our live set – which means new ideas, visual concepts, and stuff like that. Plus we finished “Clay”, and prepared potential album material.

Hah! That means you guys are going to play more live gigs again? Cause that’s what we’re hoping for here.
(smiling) That’s good to hear. Were going to play different shows in Vienna this year, yeah. Going to try some variation in set-up and live arrangement. So plenty of stuff to be excited about, I’d say.

With the things evolving so fast now, where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Rob: Good question. Probably somewhere out there, doing mean stunts on hoverboards.

And just in case you want to listen to some older ROBB before the new EP comes out tomorrow, here you go:
