19 things to do to make April 2024 amazing in Vienna

There's nothing like a Vienna Spring!

Squeeze the best out of Spring in Vienna in one month!

Finally spring is back Vienna! Time for Schanigärten, long walks in the parks, and sitting with a Spritzer near Donaukanal. So we urge you to take up the challenge and squeeze all the Vienna Spring experiences you can into April.

To see what events are happening, you should check out our event guides our 11 things we are most looking forward to do in Vienna as soon as spring is here article!

This spring is getting bluesy

Vienna Blues Spring 2024

The Vienna Blues Spring festival is all about, you guessed it, those sweet bluesy tunes! Various talented musicians will perform live on stage, so you can look forward to riffy guitar sounds and a good dose of Americana.

Be sure to check out the programme here.

Let's get tipsy!

Vienna Cocktail Week 2024

From the first of April, you’ll be able to enjoy signature cocktails at Viennese bars with a 2-for-1 deal. Check out the list of participating bars here and prepare your liver for the challenge ahead.

The Styrians invade Vienna with their magnificent cuisine and wine

Steiermark-Frühling am Wiener Rathausplatz

There are a number of events that make spring special in Vienna and this one is one of them – the Steiermark Frühling festival in front of the mighty regal looking Rathaus is coming to town. Wooden stands will fill the sweeping square and in them will be sellers offering and serving up the best of the food and drink from Austria’s Styrian region. If the sun is shining, sitting on a bench in front of the Rathaus sipping at some wine and a plate of Blunz’n, or something of the like, is a lovely way to spend an afternoon.

Looking for a good laugh?

Check out THE Comedy Club

The Vienna Comedy Club’s got it all – stand-up, games, acrobatics, music and more! You can find their events in various locations (*see our listing below or go check their website) or you can even book them to come to your office to brighten your day.

Trust us, you are in need of a good laugh and this will be more fun than watching the paint on the walls of your freshly painted living room dry. They’ve got the hottest new talents from all over the globe waiting for you and they are even bilingual, so you won’t miss a joke.

Spring is for drinking (and eating!)

MIT ALLES – Culinary Festival for Modern Gourmets and Gourmands

Foodies, this one is for you! This culinary festival will include everything from gourmet bites to local wine tasting, plus a chance to get discounts and win cool prizes from the participating chefs and winemakers.

Go look at rare old-school snaps

VIENNA VINTAGE PHOTO FAIR

An event for those interested in photography!

20 exhibitors from Austria and neighbouring countries will showcase original vintage photographs and rare historical photo treasures. And the coolest thing is: it’s all available for purchase!

Did somebody say beer festival?!

Craft Bier Fest Wien

Yes, once again in the month of October we’ll be enjoying that beautiful amber (now coming in a multitude of colours thanks to the craft beer trend) drink we know as beer. From tastings by large and small breweries to brewing workshops, and expert talks – they’ll have it all in the massive space of the cattle shed turned event venue, Marx Halle. If you’re a craft beer fan, this is something you won’t want to miss!

How it works? You buy tokens at a counter which is like magic beer money – you give the person behind a beer stand some tokens, and they give you a beer.

Get artsy fartsy

6 Museen - 1 Abend – 0 Euro

‘Going once, going twice, SOLD to the…’ Yeah that’s what you probably think when hearing ‘Dorotheum’ but not so fast. Yes there are usually auctions taking place but not this night.

They are inviting you to come and check out six different Austrian museums and the best part? Admission is free, baby! Explore the grandeur of the Baroque era in the Prunksaal, dive into the literary world of Austrian writers at the Literature Museum, gaze upon ancient globes and papyri at the Globenmuseum and Papyrusmuseum and learn about fascinating history at Esperantomuseum.

For legends and dreamers

Fantasy-Con 2024

Hear ye, hear ye! The grand halls of the glass gallery at Althangrund, within the ancient bounds of Vienna’s 9th district, shall play host to the illustrious Fantasy-Con again. Step into a realm where minstrels of Fool’s Gold weave melodies of yore and scribes of tales untold gather… yeah, just come if you’re into Fantasy genre, dressing up, and meeting like-minded people.

Vienna's biggest annual plant and flower fair

Raritätenbörse 2024

Are you looking for some beautiful (or weird looking) flowers or plants to decorate your home with? Or maybe you just want to see, smell, or even taste the amazing variety of flowers spring has already brought us.

Well, whichever it is, the rare plants market of the botanical gardens Vienna is on again and will be happening in April. You should definitely check out this free-loving flower fair and talk plants with the many passionate stand owners selling off their green stuff (not that green stuff, cheeky).

Get out to one of the biggest flea market for kid's stuff in Vienna

VFN Flea & Member Business Market

If you’re about to have a baby or already have a few this flea market will be the place to find clothes, toys, and that special stroller accessory you’ve been hunting for. The Vienna Family Network holds this flea market twice a year and helps people sell and buy to best help their family. Proceeds from the cafe will go to the charity of the year. All are welcome!

It's all about bikes and biking!

ARGUS Bike Festival

Get ready to pedal your way to the biggest bike event in Austria – the ARGUS Bike Festival! This two-wheeled extravaganza has been around for over twenty years and is the perfect way to kick off the cycling season.

Whether you’re a casual rider or a pro, you’ll find everything you need to get your bike mojo going. From crazy bike stunts and competitions to gear demos and workshops, there’s something for everyone – even if you don’t know anything about bikes. Dust off your helmet and get ready to ride. See you there!

Geek out at the comic and film fair

Wiener Comic & Film Börse

This Sunday, you can bargain and hunt for comics and films at the huge location of the Berufsschule Längenfeldgasse. Here you’ll find rarities from all around the comic world, action figurines and other merch. Oh, and swapping is allowed too.

Laugh your **** off at this gig from one of the U.K.'s best comedians

Bill Bailey – Thoughtifier

Something of a national treasure in the U.K. (and, as far as we know, a rare example of one who hasn’t been up to anything dodgy lately), comedian Bill Bailey has maintained high levels of humour for decades. Often performing music as part of his comedy shows, he’ll have you howling with laughter at the press of his keyboard. You may know him from appearances in TV shows Black Books, Never Mind the Buzzcocks and QI, and he’s gracing Vienna with his new show ‘Thoughtifier’.

Saturday Fleamarket in the 19th

Flohmarkt Obkirchergasse

What’s spring without visiting the massive flea market on the 19th district’s Obkirchengasse. On a sunny April day (we hope) private sellers will set up their stands full of second-hand stuff, and the businesses along the street will also spill onto the pavement.
It’s a family affair (so no naked cowboy stunts again) and there will a small kids flea market and a carousel, among other fun kids stuff.

Vienna‘s mighty marathon

Vienna City Marathon 2024

It’s happening again – on the 21st of April the whole city is going to turn into a mad mass of running, sweating, red-faced people participating in the Vienna City Marathon.

You can sign up for it (there’s a half marathon at 21km, as well), or you can always join in on the sidelines watching the brave from all over the world pass by and cheer them on! The feeling of human achievement is strong on the day. You can check out the whole route here.

Your body is a wonderland!

Curvect – Plus Size Second Hand Markt

Are you tired of going to regular flea markets and never finding anything that fits? Well, we’ve got you covered! (Get it? Clothes – covered… yea, you get it.) The ‘Curvect Second Hand Market’ is back and it’s exclusively for plus sizes, starting at clothing size 46.

So dig through your closet, grab your comfortable shoes and come to celebrate all body sizes! There will be clothing, shoes, accessories and even brands that aren’t available in Austria. Go and celebrate yourself because, baby, your body is a wonderland!

Ready for some sick d/trip?

Echoes of Erebos Festival

With 7 national and international artists taking the stage, this festival is sure to be a wild ride. There will be beer, fuzz, bass, and plenty of good vibes.

But that’s not all – Satan’s Finest Record Selection will be spinning some sweet vinyl to keep the party going in between sets. And when the festival ends, don’t worry – Mr. Satan will keep the head banging alive at the after party.
