What to do on New Year’s Eve if you don’t want to party

I am looking for events that are Happening

A slice of Italy before the stroke of midnight

SILVESTER IM RIBELLI

25hours Hotel Wien is dishing out New Year’s treats for everyone! Fancy a festive feast? Think shared antipasti and main courses, bringing a slice of Italy to your New Year’s Eve table. A celebration perfect for foodies and folks looking to end the year on a delicious note.

Put on your best dress and have your own butler at this party

Silvester Gala 2023

In the historic and fancy palace of Palais Auersperg, there’ll be a big, fancy celebration going down this New Year’s Eve. They’ll be offering up various packages to suit one and all (perhaps excluding punks… a punk probably wouldn’t appreciate the interior decor), ranging from simply partying with a few drinks, to a super fancy gala dinner. The whole shebang might be a bit pricey, but it could definitely be worth the money. At midnight, you can enjoy the fireworks from the beautiful garden of the palace, while making out with your butler (we’re not sure if you’ll have to pay extra for this).

Celebrate NYE high up in the sky

New Year’s Eve Celebration at Zoku Vienna

Want to watch the fireworks from one of the coolest rooftop locations in town? Then you should head all the way up to Zoku. There will be unlimited drinks from their special NYE menu, a rich buffet with snacks aplenty, live music from a band and a DJ, champagne and some fun activities to keep you entertained all included in the ticket price. The night’s dress code is ‘Roaring 20’s’ so you can expect all the glamour of a Gatsby-style party.

For the poshest of the posh

New Year’s Eve at the Hotel Imperial

If you’re feeling fancy (like not a little bit fancy, but really-really fancy) then impress yourself and scare the hell out of your bank account by booking a New Year’s Eve at the Hotel Imperial.

They promise an evening that’s as fancy as your aunt’s China – only you’re allowed to touch stuff here! Executive Chef, Werner Pichlmaier, is whipping up something elaborate and hopefully delicious. And if brunch in ballrooms or concert menus in the café sound like your kind of over-the-top, then this is your scene.

Why not have a celebratory breakfast?

Silvester Frühstück @ DANIEL VIENNA

You’re not about glitzy parties? You believe breakfast is by far the most important meal of the day? Then this cozy breakfast feast in Daniel Hotel is for you. Their breakfast buffet is legendary.

Meet 2024 under a palm tree

New Years Dinner @ Palmenhaus Brasserie

Palmenhaus Brasserie’s is also doing a New Year’s Eve dinner. This one is not just about stuffing your face with fancy food – though, let’s be honest, that’s a big part of it. But the important bit here is that it’s all happening in a stunning greenhouse setting. Perfect for those who like their celebrations with a side of botanical adventure.

A dinner with a view

New Year’s Eve over the Rooftops of Vienna

Picture a New Year’s Eve over Vienna’s rooftops: Jazz melodies fill the air until 11, then MÖWE’s house beats take over. A 5-course gala dinner awaits, because… it’s New Year’s Eve, right?! For those who fancy a view, extra cash reserves a window seat. And yes, kids over 12 are welcome too.

Raising a glass to 2024 in the poshest spot in Vienna

Silvesterdorf Schloss Belvedere

From Dec 27th, the Christmas Village in Schloss Belvedere transforms into a New Year’s hotspot. Think Baroque elegance meets festive sparkle, right in front of one of Vienna’s crown jewels, the Belvedere Palace. Yep, it’ll be buzzing, but isn’t elbowing through a chic crowd part of the charm?

Stermann & Grissemann, the famous comedy duo, are performing their ‘The egg is hard!’ show on New Year’s Eve, which is all about making you laugh with witty jokes and laugh out laugh comedy sketches. A nice way to mix some laughs and some classics into your New Year’s celebration.

The large-scale annual review of 2023

Das war 2023

If you’re into comedy and knowing what’s going on, check out Maschek’s 2023 year-end review. They’re an Austrian comedy and satire group famous for taking clips of politicians, muting them, and then making up funny dialogues over it. The show will have some of their best bits from ‘Willkommen Österreich,’ some original, some mixed up, and others improvised. It’s a fun, different way to look back at the year.

New Year's bash for the jazz lovers

Karl Ratzer Trio & Sexteto Brazil @ Porgy & Bess

Karl Ratzer Trio & Sexteto Brazil are hitting the stage at Porgy & Bess where they’ll be blending soulful guitar strings and rhythmic beats. While seats are all gone (wow, that was fast!), you can still groove in the standing area for €28 or stream with a ‘pay as you wish’ option. So, if wild parties and fancy dinners aren’t your jam, have yourself a jazzy night and jazz your way into the New Year!

Start the year right

New Year’s brunch in the Donaubräu at the foot of the Danube Tower

Imagine nursing your party hangover with a brunch buffet under the Danube Tower. They’re kicking things off at 10:30 AM on January first, so… yeah, you’ll need it. Whether you’re into health food or a full English breakfast, they’ve got you covered. Oh, and there’s a live stream of the New Year’s concert for a bit of background noise. Got kids? They’ll be busy with the MaMiZi circus crew, doing… circus stuff. After you’re done eating, for €6.40, you can wobble up the Danube Tower and see Vienna from the clouds.
