33 things you NEED to do to dive into summer & make the most out of June 2024 in Vienna

Enjoy life by the waterside

Spend some time by the Donaukanal

It doesn’t take much to spend an amazing evening at the Donaukanal. And we suggest you spend a bit of time down there by the waterside during June and July and August. Just as much time as you can spare because it feels good. Make sure to follow our list of the DOs and DON’Ts, so you have a good experience.

Eat, swim, tan, repeat

Cool off in an outdoor pool

Summer days can get pretty hot in Vienna, so what better way to cool off from the scorching heat than jumping into the refreshing waters of one of the city’s many outdoor pools. Whether you’re a serious swimmer, or just one of those pool loungers standing in the serious swimmer’s way, it’s time to get your bathers out of the closet.

Most of the public pools also have spacious green areas, which are perfect for lying around and getting your tan on. Some of them even come with awesome water slides. And believe us when we tell you: you’re never too old for those things!

Not sure which one to visit? Then check out this guide we made.

Enjoy the sun and a Spritzer in 100s of Schanigärten

Sit & spend time every day in a different Schanigarten

It’s summertime! Halleluja! You know what that means – you and your butt should be sitting in a different Schanigärten every damn day, and be trying out all those restaurants you always wanted to go to before its too cold to sit outside again.

Check out this guide on Schanigärten in Vienna if you’re looking for places where you could be bingeing on Spritzers in the sun.

Warm sand + cool drinks = perfect summer day

Sink your toes into the sand at a beach bar

Longer days and warmer temperatures have us yearning for some fun and sun in the sand. Vienna might not be blessed with natural beaches, but don’t let that stop you from slipping into your swimmers and sinking your toes into the sand.

If all goes according to plan weather-wise in June, we recommend you spend a few of your evenings seeing the sun set in one of the city’s bars with sand. We’ve made a list of our favourites for you that you can check out here.

Let out your big belly laughs at these culture and cabaret events happening in a park

Theater im Park 2024

When a former royal garden opens up for the entertainment of us peasants, like the garden of the Palais Schwarzenberg is doing for the summer-long Theater im Park, it might be time to dust off that suit and dress you got in the back of your closet. Ok, you won’t need to dress up for this as it’s a nice casual affair. A good dose of culture, theater and cabaret is going to be served up to you right in the park under the stars if you buy a ticket for one of the shows going on all summer. Check out their programme!

A summer festival with a cool concept

Wir sind Wien Festival der Bezirke 2024

This festival, celebrating Vienna’s culture scene, will be taking place all over town.

And the events are as diverse as the locations. Various live concerts, exhibitions, readings, and guided tours are in the program – you name it. We’re sure you’ll find something that interests you while browsing through the extensive festival programme.

For love, diversity and equal rights

Celebrate Love at Vienna Pride Parade

Thousands of people join this wonderful and colourful event every year to express their solidarity with the LGBTQIA+ communities in Austria and around the world.

The highlight is of course the famous Rainbow Parade. And while the celebration atmosphere makes the Rainbow Parade look like a huge street party, everyone is reminded that this is also a political demonstration demanding a non-discriminating society in Austria and elsewhere. So, express strong messages of love, respect, and solidarity through banners, t-shirts, your dance moves, or simply by what you shout out loud.

The Austrian, Gulasch and Cevapcici festival!

Donauparkfest will be happening at the large parking lot at the corner of Donauturmstraße and Arbeiterstrandbadstraße, 1220. The highlight of the event is the 10th annual Kettle Goulash Cook-Off, where teams compete to prepare the best goulash over an open fire. The festival offers a rich array of culinary delights, including huge pots of Gulash and the beloved Balkan sausage-like things, the Cevapcici. Check out the program, here.

Experience Jewish culture (and dance!)

Jüdisches Straßenfest 2024

The Jewish Street Festival is the summer highlight of IKG.Kultur. This event celebrates the diversity of Jewish life. But surely, it’s a festival too, so expect unique crafts to buy, delicious food (kosher, naturally!), and live music by bands like Noya Showband and Samaria Klezmer Band.

A political documentary that will feed your dreams about the greener future

ZukunftsKino: Wie wird die Stadt satt?

In times like this, with one political movement after the other blossoming and corruption claims forever flying around Vienna, it’s especially important to understand that political movements start with small actions, small conversations, and small groups of people fighting for their rights.

That’s why you should be checking out, ‘Wie wird die Stadt satt?,’ an exploration of where and how our food could grow in the future, from rural fields to urban rooftop gardens.

Eating exotic flavours under the sun

Do you love a street fair? We can relate. Smear that sunscreen on and get out to this fair with music, food, and…well, as if you even need more than that…more! Wear that flow-y dress and the wide brimmed hat so you can spin round and round in the grass just like you like, but this time we recommend doing it before you eat.

Lots of good vibes ahead

Das SUPERFEST 2024

Superbude is hosting a festival of fun and games for all ages. There will be delicious food provided by popular local eateries (YUM!). But that’s not all – there will also be a vintage and second-hand market, a ‘Hüpfburg’ (bouncy castle), and various activities for children. Plus: All the routes are different every time, so you might discover some places you’ve never been to before in Vienna.

A night of emotionally charged music

Check out this big culture festival

Wiener Festwochen

This is definitely the festival you’ve been looking for if you want to impress a date. In past years, some of the stuff in the program at this art festival has been avant-garde to the point of being confusing but, hey, maybe your date likes that. One thing is for sure –  you’ll always experience something new at the Wiener Festwochen.

You should check out the programme now if you’re into this sort of ‘tang.

Let the merry matchmaking begin!

PRIDE & PREJUDICE* (*SORT OF )

Our favourite English Theatre in Vienna has done it again! This time, they’re taking on a somewhat modernised adaptation of ‘Pride and Prejudice.’ The twist is five actresses play all all the roles from the classic novel. We don’t want to spoil anything, but let’s just say it’s hilariously funny, unexpectedly touching, and will totally change the way you look at karaoke machines at parties.

Afterwork party at the museum

Albert&Tina

Warmer days are here, and that means that all the artsy crowd in Vienna (and let’s be honest, all the regular crowd too) are going to hang out on the ALBERTINA Bastei terrace with a spritzer in hand, soaking in the view of the Vienna State Opera and nodding their heads to DJ beats.
